Chief Executive Officer Role Description

Reports to: Chair and Board of Trustees
Contract: Permanent
Salary: c£150,000
Location: Hybrid at our Soho, London office combined with working from home or other suitable location

Role Overview

As Chief Executive you will be responsible for providing clear and inspiring strategic and operational leadership of the Film and TV Charity – guiding the Charity towards its aim to promote the mental, financial and social wellbeing of the 200,000 people working in the UK’s world-beating TV and film industry; helping build a fairer and happier industry for all.

Working closely with the Board of Trustees, you will be accountable for the development and implementation of Strategy 2030, budget and business plan and ensure the Charity complies with the law, regulations and best practice.

You will lead an organisational culture that supports inclusion, wellbeing and performance to deliver our objectives.

Externally you will be a spokesperson and ambassador for our work, cultivating the diverse relationships and partnerships which enable us the meet our ambitions.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide strong and focused leadership to the Executive Team and staff.
  • Accountable for delivering demonstrable and evidenced impact for our beneficiaries.
  • Accountable for the development of key performance indicators, ensuring that the organisation delivers on agreed strategic goals, annual plans and budgets.

 

People Strategy and Team Culture

  • Provide inspirational leadership, ensuring collaboration, accountability and high levels of performance throughout the organisation.
  • Foster an inclusive culture which promotes wellbeing (mental, financial and social) of all our people.
  • Build, lead, motivate and support the Executive Team to deliver against the strategy.
  • Ensure high quality employment practices, including professional development aligned to the balance of personal and organisational need.
  • Ensure staffing capability and capacity meets current and future need, with strong talent management and succession planning.
  • Create a culture of impact aligned to our impact outcomes, and embed a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across all our work.

 

Quality and Service Delivery

  • Working with the Director of Impact and Innovation ensure the Charity develops high quality, evidenced based, cost effective and sustainable support services that meet the diverse needs of beneficiaries across the film and TV industry, acting in support of the charitable objects.
  • Ensure the Charity has a proportional, outcome, quality and experience measures in place that are reported through the organisation’s governance structures.
  • Ensure the Charity develops and embeds a quality improvement methodology across all Charity services.
  • Ensure the Charity has robust policy and procedure for the investigation and management of incidents and complaints.

 

External Relations

  • Work with the Director of Development to maximise reach and engagement within the industry and beyond.
  • Act as a visible, high-profile spokesperson for the organisation, raising its visibility, reputation and status.
  • Cultivating strong on-going relationships with partners, funders and other stakeholders (including regulators and government as necessary) – building new strategic relationships that can expand our reach and impact.

 

Operational & Financial Management

  • With the Director of Finance and Operations be accountable for the financial health and performance of the Charity, that budgets and operating plans are prepared and approved by the Board, expenditure and delivery is proactively managed providing close monitoring and timely reporting.
  • With the Director of Development take accountability for increasing the effectiveness of our current income streams and identify and develop new income generating activities.
  • Identify and develop commercial opportunities as appropriate.
  • Work with the team to develop proposals, bids and major tenders.

 

Good Governance

  • Build and maintain good relationships with the Chair and Trustees, actively seeking their strategic direction and other Board level decisions.
  • Understand and welcome the role of effective charity governance, upholding the obligation to give account and accept responsibility.
  • Promote a culture of accountability that is recognised and accepted as an essential element of improvement at all levels and aspects of the Charity’s work.
  • Ensure clear and appropriate reporting mechanisms that contribute to the efficient governance of the Charity, and the Board receives quality information in the level of detail needed to make informed decisions and fulfil its oversight and assurance function and legal obligations.
  • Ensure processes are in place for the rigorous management and mitigation of risk.
  • With the Director of Finance and Operations understand the role of relevant regulatory bodies and ensure the Charity responds proactively to their requirements.
  • Ensure the organisation is compliant with all relevant legislation, regulations and best practice.
  • Take accountability for ensuring a deep commitment to safeguarding and compliance with safeguarding responsibilities across the Charity through effective leadership, training, systems and monitoring.
