Essential criteria:
- A good first degree in a relevant subject (A/C)
- A doctorate (PhD or Professional Doctorate) or equivalent evidence of professional experience in a relevant subject. (A/C)
- A credible professional track record and/or research record/publications. (A/C)
Desirable criteria:
- Fellowship of Higher Education Academy (A/C)
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Academic & Management
Essential Criteria:
- Academic expertise (both teaching & research) at HE level in one of the main subjects taught within the department (A/I)
- Experience in managing resources and budgets (A)
- Excellent oral, written communications and inter-personal skills (I/P)
- Experience of managing staff and adhering to HR policies and processes (A/I)
Leadership
Essential Criteria:
- Experience of successful academic leadership (A/I)
- Ability to communicate a vision for the future which can be shared and delivered by staff and colleagues (P/I)
- Able to lead the School in terms of quality of its applied research, teaching and professional relationships (A/I)
- Experience of identifying, developing and coaching the talent needed to deliver the organisation’s strategy and goals (A/I)
- Demonstrates a high level of strategic thinking and planning in order to deliver the organisation’s vision for the future, both internally and externally (I)
Change Management
Essential Criteria:
Understands the complexities of large HE organisations and is able to initiate organisational change and implement vision (A/I)
- Anticipates and identifies the need and benefits for change and develops strategies to achieve the organisation’s goals and aspirations (I/P)
- Understands the need to develop and enable staff to take ownership of change which will shape their own performance and that of the organization (I)
Desirable Criteria:
Experience of managing and leading change in large complex organisations (I)
Research
Essential criteria
- Outstanding knowledge of their subject area
- A demonstrable outstanding track record of research projects and REF-able research output
- A demonstrable track record of successful curriculum design and teaching at all levels in higher education
- A consistent record of successful significant research grant capture
- Proven record of having successfully designed and implemented research programmes within area of study.
Desirable criteria
- Record of successful PhD supervision and completion
- Experience of knowledge transfer/consultancy
- Experience of networking and engaging beyond the academic community, with policy makers and the wider public
