Work Life Balance

Holiday Entitlement
28 days per year plus bank holidays. This increases after two years’ service to 32 days. Pro rata for Part time employees.

Additional Holidays
We operate an office closure during the Christmas and New Year holiday period that provides up to an additional 3 days of extra leave.

Maternity/Paternity Leave
We pay maternity leave above the statutory minimum requirement. Full pay for 12 weeks following 26 weeks continuous service by the 15th week before the expected week of childbirth.

Personal Days
Up to 4 personal days paid leave per year, to cover religious holidays and caring responsibilities of a dependant, such as a spouse/partner, a child under 18 years of age, a disabled child of any age or a parent.

Study Leave
Employees studying/taking examinations for professional qualifications related to their work can apply for up to a maximum of one week’s paid leave per annual leave year. Pro rata for part time employees.

Volunteer Leave
Employees may be eligible to use up to five days volunteering leave in a leave year, pro rata for part time employees. This can be for either scouting events/activities or charitable reasons.

Working Hours
The role will include evening and weekend working to ensure close partnership working with senior volunteers and the Board of Trustees, with compensatory time off. Following Covid, we have implemented revisions to our Flexible Working policy in respect of hybrid working (home/office) so that there is a high degree of flexibility for staff at levels in working patterns, though attendance at our HQ, Gilwell Park, for key meetings and events (and elsewhere) will be important.

Travel

Car Parking
All sites offer free car parking to employees.

Minibus Service (Gilwell Park)
A minibus service is provided which runs between Chingford Station and Gilwell Park for those using public transport.

Cycle to Work Scheme
This scheme is a form of salary sacrifice which enables employees to purchase a bicycle through the Government’s Cycle to Work Scheme and can save you up to 42% on the retail value (depending on the employees tax bracket).

Wellbeing

Mental Health First Aiders
We take the wellbeing of our staff extremely seriously. Many of our staff are trained Mental Health First Aiders so if you’re ever suffering from emotional distress there are plenty of people you can turn to – either for an informal chat or signposting to further support

Simply Health Scheme
After 3 months in post, employees with a contract of 9 months or more have access to a medical scheme to help with the cost of your everyday healthcare fully funded by the Scouts such as optical, dental and many more. You will also get access to the Gym discount, family days out discount and online health risk assessment.

There is also an Employee Assistance Programme offering a 24 hour counselling support service for Scouts Employees.  It is run by an external company called Health Assured. The telephone number is 0800 975 3345, website www.healthassured.org.

Your Future

Pension Scheme
We are committed to providing our staff with a work place pension scheme that is highly competitive in the social sector. For all employees, the Scouts has a Group Personal Pension Plan with Scottish Widows.

This plan allows employees to contribute a minimum of 3% of their qualifying earnings up to the maximum allowed within HMRC limits. The Scouts will contribute twice your contribution, up to a maximum of 10% of pensionable earnings. Employees can benefit further by saving National Insurance on their own pension contribution and by receiving The Scout Associations National Insurance saving on their own pension contribution.

Life Assurance
All employees up to the age of 70, are covered by a scheme which pays four times the basic salary in the event of death in service.

Private Medical Insurance
Reimbursement of reasonable cost of private medical insurance of your choice, including cover for your spouse/partner and any dependent children.

Discounts

Scout Store Purchases
Employees can make purchases from Scout Store with a discount of 25% on certain items, excluding uniforms.
