Role Description – Chief Executive Officer

Reports to: The Board of Trustees
Job Location: Regular London office attendance is required
Start Date: September – December 2022
Salary Circa: £185,000
Contract Type: Full time permanent

Job purpose

This is an extraordinary role and the first time it has become available since 2000. BAFTA’s Chief Executive Officer is responsible for designing, developing and implementing BAFTA’s vision, strategy and values. This includes: the reach and reputation of the global BAFTA brand and championing the industry, the art form, sustainability, diversity and inclusion and other societal-led challenges that face our industry.

This role has overall accountability for the aims of the charity whilst always keeping the interests of its audiences, industry, members and the public at the heart of what BAFTA does.  It leads the strategic and sustainable development of the charity, whilst constantly exploring and developing new income opportunities, in order to evolve the global impact of BAFTA’s work.

This is a hands-on, relationship-building role in a fast-paced, multi-layered creative environment and a unique opportunity to build on achievements to date whilst ensuring BAFTA continues to grow and develop on a global scale.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities are to:   

  • Deliver the strategic goals and charitable objectives of BAFTA
  • Develop and maintain key global relationships across the industry
  • Maintain strong relationships with key donors and partners
  • Champion the brand and reputation of BAFTA
  • Champion the role of BAFTA and its members across its industries
  • Understand the digital and technology landscape to grow the brand across digital and other media platforms
  • Drive the creativity and impact delivery of the brand
  • Monitor financial performance and control of risk and always deliver the best financial outcomes for the charity
  • Support the Chair and the Board of Trustees to operate effectively and within the charity Commission’s governance framework
  • Ensure the internal culture reflects BAFTA’s vision, ambition and values which in turn reflect its external profile
  • Manage and motivate BAFTA’s Executive and Director team to deliver the very best for BAFTA
  • Developing and leading the global brand ambitions
