Main Activities/Responsibilities:

Projects and Processes

  • Work with the Managing Director to shape and implement strategic projects and corporate change initiatives that enhance Tate’s mission, and which anticipate/respond to external opportunities and emerging challenges, including:
    • formulating and prioritising a portfolio of institutional initiatives to be driven forward
    • determining an annual programme of strategic projects and business process reengineering
    • re-designing systems and processes to enhance Tate’s operational agility, capacity and capability; establishing a Tate Transformation Office with revolving secondments
    • identifying resource allocation and investment requirements to support corporate change
    • engaging with staff to effect change, including assembling and leading cross functional task-focused project teams to implement new policies or deliver strategic objectives
    • driving project management overseeing the execution, monitoring, controlling and closing of projects while providing progress reports to the Executive Group and the Board
    • providing financial and risk management oversight for corporate change projects

Strategy

  • Develop a range of strategies with the Executive Group to set goals and priorities, determine actions to achieve the goals, and mobilise resources to execute the actions in support of the mission and vision of Tate. Examples may include:
    • work with the Digital and People teams to develop a state-of-the-art Digital Workplace Strategy which will optimise efficiency and use digital thinking and solutions across Tate in a coordinated and coherent manner ensuring staff can work effectively and adopt to new ways of working.
    • work with relevant departments to develop a Sustainability Strategy and Plan placing Tate as a leader in sectoral thinking on climate change and biodiversity. Ensure this is integrated across the full range of strategies and plans in Tate and informs future decisions.
    • work with the Site Directors and other internal stakeholders to redesign the Spatial Planning Process to deliver an effective events and diary function across the London sites in line with Tate’s artistic and commercial needs ensuring that all scheduling aspiration and activity levels can be achieved within available financial and staffing resources.
    • support a revised Estates Strategy to ensure that Tate is optimising its sites in line with the mission and vision, while addressing major operational challenges, staff welfare, environmental and visitor needs.

Operational

  • Take responsibility for the Transformation team, ensuring streamlined and cost-effective delivery. To include:
    • establish clear performance targets and objectives aligned to the delivery of Tate’s vision and mission
    • ensure a culture of continuous improvement is embedded within Tate’s activities
    • stimulate innovative approaches to addressing increasing demand on services and facilities
    • line manage direct reports, including setting objectives, monitoring performance and supporting their personal and professional development, including development of leadership skills

 Leadership

  • Be outward facing and develop and maintain contacts with government and other bodies, leveraging networks and contacts to influence partnership development.
  • Play a key role in the strategic leadership and management of Tate and undertake organisational-wide responsibilities that are appropriate to the role
  • Deputise for the Managing Director as required.
