Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the role of Director of Business Transformation at Tate.

We’re very excited to be introducing this role to the directorate of Tate, at a time of significant change in the way we serve our audiences, artists and communities. We’re looking for a dynamic and inspirational change agent to lead the strategic transformation of Tate’s working practices and business processes, optimising operations and delivering continuous improvements with both financial and non-financial benefits. The outcome will be a bolder, collaborative, innovative and modern organisation to deliver our mission and vision.

When Tate closed its galleries at the end of March 2020, we had just experienced one of our most successful years, generating 70% of our own income and welcoming record visitor figures to many of our galleries. In stark contrast, over a year later, the impact of the pandemic changed everything for us, as it has for so many other organisations and communities around the world.

The crisis we have weathered has showed us what is possible. It has been possible to adapt our artistic programme, to welcome visitors safely to our galleries, to work remotely, and to engage global audiences online. We want to continue this agility and innovation. As Tate plans for the next five years, this is a moment at which to recalibrate the museum to a model in which a deeper relationship with a wider, more diverse public is at the centre of its operations.

We are looking for someone who combines a passion for Tate’s vision and mission with a proven track record of making change happen. Our new Director of Business Transformation will have strong leadership capabilities and bring gravitas, credibility, energy and resilience to the role. The emotional intelligence to connect with and inspire others will be important. The role has the endorsement and full support of a committed and engaged Board of Trustees.

This is an exciting opportunity to support Tate’s long-term sustainability, to champion the right to art for everyone, and to shape Tate’s future as artistically adventurous and culturally inclusive art museums, for the UK and the world.
