Dear candidate,
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about the role of Deputy Director of Estates Management at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
There are at least 50,000 children with hearing loss in the UK, around half of whom are born with hearing loss. An estimated 1.2 million people in the UK have severe or profound deafness, and 1 in 5 people in the UK have hearing loss – that’s 12 million people. Hearing loss can lead to withdrawal from social situations, emotional distress, loneliness, and depression. Hearing loss can increase the risk of dementia by up to five times.
Here at Hearing Dogs, we are passionate about transforming deaf people’s lives and using dogs to do that. We train hearing dogs to not only become life-changers who alert their deaf partners to important sounds such as doorbells and fire alarms, but they also become loyal, loving companions that unlock confidence and reduce isolation for those with hearing loss.
The Hearing Dogs operations are based at The Grange near Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire and The Beatrice Wright Centre in Bielby , Yorkshire. Both are large estates with a variety of functions including dog training flats & outdoor training fields, administration offices, accommodation and a restaurant.
Both sites have planning permission submissions in progress that could result in multimillion-pound developments. As such, we are seeking a Deputy Director of Estates Management to be based at our offices at The Grange with regular visits to Yorkshire.
The role is wide ranging, from day-to-day management of the maintenance staff and responsibility for the health & safety at both sites, through to the creation of long-term rolling renewal programmes and oversight of the planned development at the two sites.
Both of the sites are regularly visited by many of our 3,000 volunteers and 200 staff so the role requires someone who relishes dealing with people as well as the infrastructure of an organisation.
If the thought of making a difference within a caring and compassionate charity sparks your enthusiasm, then I look forward to receiving your application.
Thank you,
Cliff Hedley
Director of Finance, IT and Estates.
