Attainments/Qualifications

  • Degree Level Education – preferably in a relevant subject, or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of relevant and associated CPD

Skills and Understanding

  • Demonstrable understanding of the challenges in relation to equality, diversity, inclusion, culture and ways of working within the Higher Education (HE) sector or in another sector with parallels to HE and evidence of successfully overcoming these.
  • A focus on working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to reach agreed outcomes.
  • Strong ability to influence and persuade others to support and follow a course of action outside of normal line management framework.
  • Ability to exercise and demonstrate sound judgement in decision making.
  • Ability to engage students and student leaders effectively to shape projects and initiatives to positively influence student experience.
  • Highly developed analytical skills and critical thinking ability.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership at a cross-institutional level, including an awareness of the appropriateness or otherwise of delegation.
  • Detailed knowledge of current issues relating to EDI, culture and ways of working, including a highly developed knowledge of the legislative and regulatory framework in relation to EDI and an understanding of the challenges facing our increasingly global community.

Prior Experience

  • Experience of successfully developing and implementing strategy at an institutional level in relation to people, culture and inclusion.
  • Track record of delivering successful outcomes in relation to equality, diversity, inclusion, culture and ways of working within large, complex and challenging institution.
  • Bring examples of best national and international practice from the higher education sector and/or beyond, in order to position the University of Exeter as an exemplar institution in the way that it values and treats its staff and student community.
  • Experience of leading and developing teams to deliver organisational outcomes within agreed budgets.
  • Experience of developing KPIs to measure impact of new initiatives/ programmes on the University’s culture.
