Person Specification

  • Ability to build relationships across the organisation, become a trusted advisor able to challenge and influence peers
  • Inspirational leader able to engage with colleagues, stakeholders and external contacts
  • Flexibility of thought and approach. Ability to adapt and adjust legal and HR best practice appropriately in a complex working environment supporting managers with varying degrees of experience and diverse job roles
  • Substantial generalist HR experience, including complex case management, change management, Management Information Systems and policy creation and development
  • Proven success in driving and managing complex organisational change
  • Knowledge of contemporary workplace and organisational development issues, with experience of implementing new HR procedures and ways of working across an organisation
  • Excellent employment law knowledge, backed by formal qualification e.g. CIPD. Ability to apply employment law concepts in a flexible way balancing legal compliance with financial, commercial and creative demands in a unionised environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Confidence to apply both formal and informal styles where required. Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion issues, backed by experience in this field, and a commitment to helping ensure that the Theatre’s workforce becomes more representative of the UK
  • Working understanding of the social model of disability
  • Experience of successful project management and the ability to manage the projects of others
  • Understanding and ideas around remuneration and motivation throughout a diverse workforce
  • Financial understanding including the ability to quickly understand the financial consequences of employment decisions, the ability to manage budgets and to impose budgetary restraint upon others where required
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary Learning and Development issues, able to consider individual and team development needs and to find creative and cost-effective ways of meeting these needs within the context of overall organisational objectives and finite training resources

Please note that the post holder will be required to assist in the administration and management of the National’s processes for ensuring that certain grades of staff are checked for previous criminal convictions, particularly those working with children and vulnerable adults. The successful applicant will therefore be required to undertake a criminal record check.
