Dear Candidate,
The legal services sector is undergoing significant change. AI is transforming legal services, there is a growing trend towards firm consolidation, new business models are emerging, and consumer expectations are shifting. In that context, it is essential that legal services regulation is effective in protecting consumers from harm and enabling the sector to innovate and grow.
In recent years, legal services regulation has not been as effective as it could have been in keeping pace with these developments. We have seen significant consumer detriment as a result of regulatory failure. Key frontline regulators who we oversee are going through significant transformation programmes to better enable them to deliver on the regulatory objectives set out in the Legal Services Act 2007. Against that backdrop, the need for effective oversight regulation by the LSB to ensure improvements are delivered has never been greater.
The LSB too is changing its approach to oversight regulation. We are introducing a risk-based, intelligence led approach to oversight which will enable more targeted deployment of resources to address risks and issues. We will be proactive, agile and dynamic in our approach, and have established a dedicated team to lead our work in this area. This is a hugely exciting opportunity for an exceptional individual to lead and shape our new Regulatory Oversight directorate.
As Director, Regulatory Oversight, you will be joining an executive leadership team in a role that brings significant influence over the strategic direction of the organisation and the sector more widely. If you want to make a difference on behalf of consumers, are passionate about using evidence to bring about positive change and are looking for an opportunity to bring about improvements in consumer outcomes, this job might just be for you.
I wish you every success in your application.
