About Us

John Whitgift Foundation has been serving Croydon since 1596. Today, we support people of all ages and backgrounds through outstanding independent education, care services and charitable work.

Our work is rooted in the legacy of Archbishop John Whitgift, who set aside land and assets to educate and care for the people of Croydon. More than 430 years later, that purpose continues through our schools, care services and charitable activity across the local community.

As one of the largest bursary providers in the country, we support young people to access an outstanding education at Trinity School and Whitgift School.

Through Whitgift Care, we provide a range of care settings and services, from residential care and sheltered housing to full-time person-centred care and respite care.

The land and assets set aside by our founder generate income that is reinvested into the local community. This funds bursaries for local students at Trinity School and Whitgift School and provides some charitable support for elderly residents.

The Foundation is guided by our Court Governors, who bring a range of experience and backgrounds to oversee the management of the charity and ensure we continue to fulfil our founder’s wishes.
