Welcome

Dear Applicant

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about the role of Head of Human Resources in the John Whitgift Foundation.

Based in Croydon, South London, the Foundation operates two outstanding independent schools: Trinity School and Whitgift School. We also have provision for elderly residents in our almshouses, sheltered accommodation and two care homes. The charitable work of the Foundation – the majority of which is a significant bursary scheme to support pupils from lower income families attend our schools – is funded by the income from our investment and property portfolio.

The Head of Human Resources will play a central role in this work, providing trusted leadership, sound professional advice and a clear focus on both operational excellence and long-term organisational development.

We are looking for an energetic, thoughtful and values-led HR professional who can build strong relationships across our diverse organisation, work closely with senior leaders, and help us attract, retain and develop talented people. The successful candidate will understand the importance of seeing HR not simply as a function, but as a vital partner in enabling colleagues and teams to thrive.

As CEO, I am particularly keen that our HR function continues to be visible, responsive and forward-looking. We want to build on strong foundations while ensuring our policies, systems and ways of working support a positive employee experience, effective recruitment, high-quality professional development and confident leadership at every level.

I hope this pack gives you a clear sense of our purpose and remit, and the kind of leader we are looking for. We look forward to hearing from you!

Roisha Hughes
