Dear Candidate,
Thank you for your interest in the role of Chair at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
Here at Hearing Dogs, we are passionate about helping people live well with hearing loss. Our services provide a much-needed variety of emotional and practical support, including our Hearing Dogs. With over 1,200 accredited hearing dogs who alert people to various sounds, build resilience and provide companionship to increase confidence and connection, we help people live well with hearing loss.
1 in 5 people in the UK have a hearing loss – that’s 12 million people. The World Health Organisation recognises hearing loss as the second most impactful and modifiable contributor to any disability experienced at any age, highlighting its significance on mental and physical health. Hearing loss can lead to withdrawal from social situations, emotional distress, loneliness, depression and increases the risk of dementia by up to five times.
As Chair of the Board, you will provide leadership and governance to enable the Charity to achieve its objectives through the implementation of a newly developed strategy. You will play a key role in the early stages of this strategy’s execution, focusing our organisational goals and guiding efforts to refresh our brand and forward-looking identity. We are seeking an accomplished professional to join our Board of Trustees as Chair and contribute expertise at a pivotal time. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to support the safeguarding, integrity, and governance of a respected organisation committed to enhancing the lives of individuals with hearing loss.
If you are excited to make a difference and have a significant impact, we look forward to receiving your expression of interest for this key appointment. Of course, the opportunity to meet our dogs and puppies will be an added bonus!
Christina O’Donovan-Rossa,
Chair of the Board
