Impact Highlights
We are proud of the impact we make both to the NHS, communities in Lambeth and Southwark as well as nationally. Our work focuses on where we can make the greatest change, for example:
- 300,000 children lifted out of poverty by supporting the Schools Food Review Group, a cross-sector advocacy coalition to extend Free School Meals. This helped secure the recent announcement at the Budget that eligibility for free school meals would be extended to all children in households receiving Universal Credit.
- £6m fundraised by our hospital facing charities with 1,149 people taking part in a challenge event and 4,000 people signed up to give every month.
- £20.6m committed by the Foundation to fund long-term projects with the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation NHS Trust.
- 20% reduction in air pollution at entrances and A&E by in three years and increasing electric vehicle uptake to over 67% by funding the Trust’s Air Quality Partnership.
- Shaping the Clean Air Strategy by funding community-led advocacy through Mums for Lungs to reframe air pollution as a children’s health and equity issue.
- £41.9m committed to charitable activities to transform lives nationally and across Lambeth and Southwark.
- £32.8m in charitable grants awarded local partners to deliver impacts in the communities that suffer from deprivation and disadvantage.
- Permission for 1.5m square feet of life sciences and commercial space to make South London a global hub for health and wellbeing.
- 2,000 works displayed across our partner NHS Trust sites to improve patient, family and visitor experiences.
- 84 local and national organisations partnered to pilot, test and implement innovative community health solutions.
- £255,000 for patient support care by continuing our support for the Dimbleby Cancer Care Centre which offers patients free financial advice.
- 3,500 more cancer patients will receive holistic and specialist hair loss support through Guy’ Cancer Charity.
- 37,000 vehicle telecoms fleet updated to reduce air pollution through investment in environmentally focused and innovative hedge-funds.
- 55% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions from Lambeth and Southwark construction sites through partnership with developer Arup and local councils.
- 3,000 patients and family enjoying the magic of cinema through BAFTA Awarding winning MediCinemas at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals.
Through our policy and influence team at Impact on Urban Health, we also support campaigns on key issues. Examples from 2026 include:
- Air quality: Providing oral evidence to Parliament’s Environmental Audit Committee as part of their inquiry into air quality in England and encouraging EV adoption by local councils.
- Food industry: Funding the Recipe for Change which calls for an industry levy to make food healthier
- Housing: Supporting research into housing inequality for children and adults.
“Together we can be a catalyst for the changes needed in our society for everyone to stay healthier, for longer.” Laurie Lee – Chief Executive
