Terms of Appointment

Salary: £120,000 per annum

Contract: This is a permanent, full-time executive appointment.

Location : Based at our offices in central London/complemented by appropriate home working

Hours: Full Time (37.5 hours per week) – hours as required to meet the needs of the agenda and business.

Annual leave: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

Pension: Contributory Pension Scheme.

Purpose of the Role:

To influence, own and implement FCC’s strategy in order to deliver FCC’s mission.

Summary Characteristics

The CEO will:

  • be entrepreneurial to deliver the mission, impacts, end-game, and pull the levers of change at scale, with the ability to develop revenue models and the commercial nous to implement them successfully, based on a track record of generating revenue to sustain and grow a business;
  • a convener of people, respecting specialists, facilitating new thinking whilst appreciating what exists currently with an ability to engender alignment towards specific, practical solutions to real issues based on evidence;
  • be credible with senior leaders and practitioners operating in the system, particularly commissioners and providers: with ability to open doors (often by knowing people in the system) and build relationships;
  • be a storyteller who can front FCC’s point of view / the “so what”.
  • have the ability to spark a movement by being an inspirational leader, able to raise the profile of the charity with the public, practitioners, governments, regulators, health and care providers, and all other relevant constituents in order to rapidly enhance FCC’s credibility, deliver tangible impact in line with the organisation’s objectives, and articulate our point of view;
  • be experienced in operating at Board level in an agile, moderately resourced organisation;
  • motivate and lead an appropriately sized team to deliver FCC’s mission, objectives and strategy;
  • demonstrate excellent business management and people management skills and create an environment for the organisation to flourish with an enhanced and nationally recognised profile;
  • actively engage with the Board of Trustees to best utilise their expertise and ensure their oversight capabilities;
  • build highly effective relationships with relevant stakeholder organisations to create outcomes exemplifying our approach and amplifying our voice.

 Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the CEO will be responsible for:

  • Strategic leadership – lead, direct and drive FCC towards its strategic objectives, liaising with the Board of Trustees to make high-level decisions about policy and strategy;
  • Operational delivery – lead all aspects of FCC’s operations; develop a value and outcome driven organisational culture; manage risk and ensure regulatory and legal compliance;
  • Building income and resource – further FCC’s Mission through an innovative and entrepreneurial approach, driving financial growth to sustainably grow impact through different activities;
  • Business management – creating a profitable business through management of income and expenditure;
  • Networking and raising the profile of the charity – the CEO will raise awareness of FCC and establish it as a key player, thought leader and opinion former in the health and care sector;
  • Advocate and campaign – design, launch and lead evidence based advocacy and campaigns to further FCC’s mission, becoming the leading individual voice for breaking down boundaries in health and care;
  • Executive leadership – ensure the Board receives timely advice and appropriate information as relevant; recruit and manage, either directly or indirectly, employees and volunteers, ensuring that performance management systems for the staff, and for the organisation as a whole, are in place and being applied;
  • Staff management – coaching, mentoring and supporting the career development of an appropriately sized, diverse team;
  • Create a strong portfolio of delivered programmes/projects to demonstrate the value FCC adds to improving care delivery across sectors;
  • Carrying out all other such duties as may be required that are commensurate with the role of CEO.
