Chair: Role Description
Remuneration: £40,000
Purpose:
The Chair is a key figurehead for the Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult and will be required to provide support and guidance to the leadership team and wider Board. You will act as a champion for the Catapult’s mission and objectives and be responsible for supporting overall direction and management, ensuring that the Board takes an effective governance role whilst giving the CEO appropriate challenge and support. The role will include supporting the executive team with execution of our ambitious strategy for growth of the UK’s compound semiconductor industry and to help establish the UK’s global leadership position in this sector.
External stakeholder engagement
- Engage with the Chairs of the other Catapults, with the Catapult Network Group, Innovate UK, UKRI and with Government Ministers and senior officials in relevant departments positioning Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult as a leading organisation for development of the UK’s strategic position on sovereign and global supply chains for compound semiconductors and wider semiconductors.
- Engaging with the business and academic communities, investment community as well as other public, private and third sector partners and funding agencies, including those outside of the UK, to increase the relevance and economic impact of the Catapult and the wider UK. compound semiconductor industry.
Internal Board leadership
- Support and empower the CEO in progressing a coherent strategic approach across the organisation on innovation priorities.
- Leadership authority and credibility to guide a high-profile board to discharge governance and leadership scrutiny of the Catapult.
- Working with executive team to plan and conduct board meetings effectively, ensuring the board receives the necessary information.
- Participate, as appropriate, in relevant Board committees.
- Ensure the board focuses on the critical tasks and strategic matters.
- Engage and inspire the board in assessing and improving its performance, pushing boundaries to achieve ambitious goals with appropriate support and oversight.
- With the Board monitor the strategic, commercial and financial performance of executive leadership of the Catapult, ensuring ambitious delivery of targets set in the outcomes and objectives, and wider business/delivery plans, providing challenge, support and coaching as appropriate.
