In addition to the person specification for a non-executive member of Chapter outlined below, the Senior Non-Executive should bring to the role their faith, credibility and a willingness to serve, along with a desire to build and maintain strong relationships.
The appointee is likely to have experience operating at a senior level with a deep understanding of finance, strategy, resource and risk.
The successful candidate is likely to be well-networked and have previous experience operating as a board member or charity trustee; previous experience as a Chair is desirable.
Time Commitment/Expectations
The Senior Non-Executive Member role will have a requirement, on average, of one day per month in addition to the one day a month commitment required of all Chapter non-executives.
Person Specification for all Non-Executive Members of Chapter
- Communicant member of the Church of England (within the meaning given in Rule 83(2) of the Church Representation Rules), or a communicant member of a Church which is not in communion with the Church of England but subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity.
- Committed to the Cathedral’s Christian vision, mission and ministry.
- Able to carry out legal duties as set out in the Charity Commission’s ‘CC3 – The Essential Trustee’ and make decisions in accordance with the guidance provided in ‘CC27 – It’s Your Decision’.
- Willing to follow the Chapter’s Code of Conduct and Trustee Code of Practice and to uphold all of Chapter’s safeguarding responsibilities, including undertaking training on safeguarding as required.
- Demonstrable ability to think strategically, evaluate opportunities and contribute to the strategic vision. Previous experience as a trustee is desirable.
- Ability to assess complex issues, constructively challenge proposals and hold the executive team to account.
- A good grasp of charity governance responsibilities, legal and statutory duties.
- Willingness to attend to professional personal development including undertaking training.
- Able to commit a minimum of six hours a month to attending Chapter meetings (or other business on behalf of Chapter) including preparation for meetings.
- Willing to participate in the corporate ministry of Chapter, including attendance at some services.
