Reset is a UK-based charity (no. 1179799), established in 2018 to help diverse communities welcome and resettle refugees into local neighbourhoods across the UK. To date, Reset has trained 6,500 individuals and supported 300 community groups to welcome over 1,000 refugees from all over the world. The charity is governed by a board of eight independent trustees with diverse expertise in refugees, law, government, business, private sector and charities who delegate the day-to-day running of the charity to the Chief Executive, supported by a team of 10-12 staff.
Reset runs a portfolio of community-led welcome programs and works with policymakers to improve outcomes for refugees, commissioning and conducting new research to improve the knowledge base around issues affecting refugees in the UK and beyond.
Since 2018, Reset has been commissioned by the Home Office to run the national Community Sponsorship programme, training and equipping communities to formally sponsor refugee families as they resettle in the UK (based on the Canadian resettlement model). It is the only national accredited provider. Reset is also a government recognised matching provider on the Homes for Ukraine scheme, funded by the UK’s Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC). As part of this, Reset provides a matching and support service to enable refugees fleeing Ukraine to find safe, suitable host families. Reset has also developed an innovative programme called Neighbours for Newcomers (in partnership with international NGO Talent Beyond Boundaries and with NHS partners in the UK), coordinating employment opportunities (typically for nurses and other health professionals) and community-led welcome schemes for highly skilled refugees arriving in the UK. Reset’s Chief Executive also co-chairs the Home Office’s quarterly Resettlement Strategic Engagement Group, representing the voluntary sector.
About the team
Who are we? Small but mighty: our dynamic and passionate team is dedicated to bringing people together around the UK to help welcome refugees into our communities. Our strength comes from the hundreds and hundreds of people who work together to prepare for new refugee arrivals. So far, we have helped to resettle more than a thousand people into their new lives in the UK, people escaping violence, torture, war, and persecution, from Ukraine to Syria and Afghanistan.
What do we do? It is not easy making a new life in a new country: a new culture, often a new language. New arrivals often need help finding a job, registering with the GP, enrolling their children in school, and – not least – finding somewhere to live, so we provide training and support to equip local groups to help refugees do this. We also work with Local Authorities and other agencies to ensure groups and refugees are well supported, even when things don’t go to plan. It is inspiring, rewarding work.
