Essential knowledge and skills required
The chair of the audit and risk committee must have the following experience.
- Experience of chairing meetings,
- In depth experience of risk monitoring and management,
- Knowledge of auditing and relationships with auditors,
- Knowledge of the voluntary sector,
- Understanding of charity governance,
- Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

- In depth and demonstrable experience of working with auditors and conducting audits,
- Experience of overseeing safeguarding and whistleblowing issues and related investigations,
- Knowledge of data protection,
- Knowledge of health and safety,
- Knowledge of overseeing complaints monitoring and management,
- Knowledge of environmental matters and compliance,
- Knowledge of membership organisations,
- Good collaborative skills,
- Moral courage, personal resilience and being comfortable with challenge,
- Ability to participate with openness, honesty, integrity and transparency,
- A commitment to NCVO’s mission and knowledge of the role of the voluntary sector and volunteering,
- Willingness and ability to meet the minimum time commitment.
