About Us

Would you like the opportunity to contribute to the fight against serious and organised crime?

Serious and organised crime is one of the gravest threats to the UK’s national security. The National Crime Agency sits at the heart of the law enforcement response, protecting the public by disrupting and bringing to justice those serious and organised criminals who pose the highest risk to the UK.

NCA officers work at the forefront of law enforcement. Building the best possible intelligence picture of all serious and organised crime threats, relentlessly pursuing the most serious and dangerous offenders, and developing and delivering specialist capabilities on behalf of law enforcement and other partners.

There’s no such thing as a typical NCA officer. We come from different backgrounds and cultures, speak many languages, and have diverse skills and experiences. What we have in common is dedication and a commitment to protecting the public from serious and organised crime.

Our mission is to protect the public from serious and organised crime.

Our values drive everything we do as an Agency:

Integrity: we do the right thing and act with courage.

Agility: we are flexible and innovative to stay ahead of the threat.

Alliance: we embrace diversity, collaborating with teams and partners.

Excellence: we aspire to be world class in protecting the public from serious and organised crime.

Our vision is to Build a ‘One NCA’ Culture, that is distinct and diverse, where our people are united by their pride to protect, enabled to be at their best, and feel safe to speak-up.

We’re committed to providing a positive and inclusive environment where all officers from all backgrounds can succeed and make a real difference in the fight against Serious and Organised Crime. We are proud of our staff-led Diversity Groups who play an important role in supporting officers whatever their background, and help the organisation to develop and embed our approach to inclusion, making sure that we set ourselves up for success.

The Agency is committed to providing equal opportunities to all individuals and all NCA Officers have a role to play in creating a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and can contribute. We expect everyone at the NCA to be treated with respect and dignity.

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader. We offer an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria for the role and are happy to discuss reasonable adjustments as part of your application so that you can perform at your full potential and throughout your career with the NCA.

If you want to join our mission, and be part of an organisation committed to fairness, can meet our high expectations of integrity and demonstrate inclusive behaviours, then we encourage you to apply for our roles.

About the Operational Directorates

Serious and Organised Crime (SOC) in the UK often has an international dimension.

For example, for illegal commodities such as firearms, overseas countries are often the beginning of the supply chain. Other threats, such as cybercrime or online child sexual abuse and exploitation, are by definition internationally focussed in a technologically interconnected world.

For this reason, the NCA has officers based across the globe within the International Liaison Officer (ILO) network.

The International Directorate leads a large overseas network alongside the UK International Crime Bureau. It works with international partners and coordinates UK law enforcement overseas to gather intelligence, conduct operational activity (through partner agreement) and enhance international delivery through a variety of means, including capacity building, training and joint European and International taskforces.

The Intelligence Directorate sits at the heart of the NCA and drives our operational work, leading the NCA tasking and prioritisation teams and supporting wider SOC system federated tasking’. It is responsible for: providing a clear picture of the Serious Organised Crime (SOC) threat; prioritising the threat and identifying the most significant targets; developing operations to disrupt the threat; and providing specialist capabilities to both the NCA and wider law enforcement partners.

It is made up of four distinct but interconnected departments:

  • Target Development (assessment, prioritisation & triage of leads, developing operations);
  • Collection (including communications collection, human intelligence collection, technical collection, forensics);
  • Data and Analysis (delivering the National Data Exploitation Capability and providing high end analysis of the threat); and
  • Tasking & Prioritisation (leading the NCA, and wider SOC system, tasking and prioritisation teams).

The Investigations Directorate provides a flexible, shared operational capability, designed to maximise the impact of the UK’s collective resources against serious and organised crime. Our teams respond to a broad range of threats, many of which also remain a responsibility for police forces and other agencies as well as private industry.

We take an intelligence-led approach and concentrate on tackling the criminals and risks to the public which are beyond the capability or capacity of other law enforcement bodies.

Our work is largely focused on investigating Organised Immigration Crime, Human Trafficking, Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Economic Crime, Firearms, Drugs, Kidnap and Extortion and Money Laundering – to name a few.
