Welcome

Dear Applicant,

I would like to thank you for your interest in joining one of our three specialist Advisory Groups.

We are looking to appoint several exceptional individuals who can advise us on leading a large and complex organisation. You will be a creative thinker, able to spot new opportunities, and bring new connections and perspectives in delivering our work to care for nature, beauty, and history on behalf of the nation.

The National Trust was established in 1895 by people who believed we all have a fundamental need for access to nature, space and beauty, and that special places need protection. Today we hold true to those beliefs. We want as many people as possible to feel welcome and connected to our places and to have an opportunity to get involved.

This is an exciting time to join our Advisory Groups as we move into a new strategy period in 2025. We also have many challenges to face; the external pressures on the issues we care about can feel overwhelming, but for each challenge there is a counterbalancing opportunity.

Climate change is the greatest conservation threat we face, but we are not alone as the government, public, private, and charitable sectors also understand the urgency in reaching net zero. We have ambitious plans to become carbon net zero by 2030, investing in renewables and establishing 20 million trees to create more woodland.

The external debate about how we present our properties demonstrates an active interest in how we share our histories. We are developing programmes and activities to appeal to more people and explore how the rich histories of our places are shared; places that we understand hold many meanings for different people at different times.

The pandemic further highlighted inequality of access to high quality green spaces and the role these places play to our health and wellbeing. We are working in partnership to restore and connect habitats, and bring wildlife back to our coast, countryside, and gardens. We will make it easier for everyone to have access to green space and nature

It’s the passion of our people and supporters that makes the National Trust a special place to work and volunteer. People are the key to our success. If you feel your skills can help us to deliver our essential cause, then we would love to hear from you.

Yours faithfully
