Person Specification

In order to succeed in the role the post holder should be a professionally qualified individual with a wide range of senior leadership experience. S/he should have good experience of and be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Church of England structures
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking gained from running a business or organisation comparable to the LDF in size and complexity
  • Work collaboratively with people in a matrix organisation
  • Manage colleagues in a range of functional disciplines such as Finance, Human Resources, Property and Operations. This includes the ability to recruit, motivate, retain and support all colleagues in a professional manner
  • Chair and contribute to meetings on a range of subjects, but be sensitive to the fact that the Diocese is not a ‘command and control’ environment. It is a matrix structure with a range of stakeholders in many guises
  • Identify problems and opportunities, shape solutions and successfully implement, with colleagues and stakeholders on board
  • Communicate well; both in writing and orally including the ability to present in public forums and to write reports, proposals and policies
  • Have personal authority liaising with all levels in a complex environment, relating with confidence to Bishops and Archdeacons, and senior lay people as well as relating well to the many clergy and lay people across the Diocese
  • Relate well to staff, with good inter-personal skills. Be able to both motivate and take challenging decisions
  • Challenge within the context of collegiate relationships

In line with guidance from the Equality Act 2010, we have made the requirement to be Christian an occupational requirement of this role. Understanding the Church of England would be desirable.
