Purpose:
The role requires the rare combination of strengths needed to be an effective CEO: leadership, drive, determination, and the skills of management; strategic planning, relationship building, and practical judgement. In collaboration with the board of trustees, the CEO will develop and refine the organisation’s strategy, ensuring it is responsive to any national strategy, commissioners’ requests, and the needs/aspirations of people who use our services. In addition to these core qualities, the ideal candidate will have proven experience in team development across various working models, including hybrid environments. This includes the ability to build, mentor, and sustain high-performing teams, fostering collaboration and engagement, regardless of physical location. The CEO must demonstrate a track record of navigating the complexities of hybrid working, ensuring that all team members feel connected, supported, and aligned with the organisation’s goals.
- Provide strong visible leadership to the Leadership Team and general workforce, providing clear communication on the strategic direction of the charity; ensuring they are empowered to make decisions and have the tools and skills to inspire high performance.
- Build effective working and influential relationships with partners and stakeholders to develop strategies which will result in tangible improvements to the quality of services for people affected by gambling.
- Enhance and maintain GamCare’s reputation by strategically navigating complex stakeholder relationships and media engagements, ensuring GamCare continues to be and be seen as a leader in its field.
- Be responsible for a Strategic Management framework for the organisation which reflects National strategy, Commissioner requests and the needs/ aspirations of people who use our services.
- Develop a culture of continuous improvement; innovation and service excellence, underpinned by data and evidence, to ensure high quality care to all who use GC services. In addition, the CEO should foster a culture of “delivery” emphasising tangible measurable outcomes, ensuring that strategies are not only developed and planned well but also effectively executed, with a focus on measurable impact and timely delivery.
- Lead programmes of work using innovative solutions and develop great relationships with funding providers to support the creation of new funding pipelines.
- Be responsible for the development of the services provided by GamCare, developing and implementing the strategic and business plan. Ensure service viability by identifying and pursuing appropriate growth opportunities.
- Be responsible for the Risk Management framework of GamCare, encompassing both corporate and operational aspects.
- Provide professional, approachable leadership, including development and direction and to all members of the Leadership Team.
Main Responsibilities:
- Be accountable for the overall management and development of GamCare, to provide dynamic, strategic leadership; enabling the organisation to grow aligned with the agreed strategic direction set by the Board, ensuring the charity’s vision, mission and values are met.
- Provide regular reports to the Board of Trustees, via regular Board Meetings and meetings with the Chairperson and individual Trustees. Act as the primary point of contact between the board and the management team, with a direct and consistent line of communication to the chairperson, to maintain a best practice framework for engagement with trustees to ensure transparent and timely sharing of information, and regular consultation on strategic decisions and organisational developments. Ensure effective, affordable, viable and safe delivery of services to the highest quality, experience and outcomes for people who use GamCare Services.
- Managerial Leadership ensuring that effective staff management is in place in order to generate high levels of staff motivation, contribution and performance.
- Inspire and empower teams by providing clear guidance, mentorship, and support, cultivating a productive, collaborative environment focused on achieving results and making a meaningful impact. Ensure that communication is clear, open, and consistent across all levels of the organisation, recognising its critical importance as identified in staff surveys. Your leadership approach should be approachable, accessible, and foster a culture of ‘closing-the-loop’ communication and transparency.
- Maintain the pace of change and deliver improved services within a sustainable financial context. Drive the digital transformation of services, ensuring that digital innovations are integrated to enhance service delivery, customer experience and enable regular evidence-based efficacy reviews.
- Ensure the effective and efficient development and deployment of the workforce capacity and capability and foster a digital-first mindset among staff to support the evolution of services and operations.
- Ensure the delivery of robust integrated governance systems; complaints, incidents and audit.
- Comprehensive delivery and services compliance with mandatory training and ongoing professional development and lifelong learning for all groups of staff.
- Lead safeguarding processes for the organisation.
- Ensure excellent management of HR processes including absence, disciplinary, performance issues and grievances.
- Ensure excellent management of Finance processes covering accounting and budgeting procedures, working closely with the leadership team to identify and implement digital solutions that improve financial processes and reporting.
Board Administration and Support
Support the operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members, facilitating communication between the Board and GamCare staff, and ensuring that Trustees are fully briefed and consulted with. Collaborate with the Board to develop and propose strategies that align with the organisation’s values and goals, ensuring that these strategies are rigorously examined and agreed upon by the board. Take responsibility for executing the Board agreed strategic direction, and be Accountable for delivering results while maintaining an open and constructive dialogue to ensure continuous alignment.
Financial and Facilities Management
With the support of the Head of Finance recommend yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manage GamCare’s resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.
Human Resource Management
With the support of the Head of Human Resources effectively manage the Human Resources of GamCare according to authorised personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations.
Communications
Working with the Director of Communications and External Affairs, ensure GamCare’s plans, programs, products and services are consistently presented in a positive image to relevant stakeholders and are in line with commissioner’s plans and aspirations.
Fundraising
Working closely with the Director of Development to develop an innovative fundraising strategy to ensure diverse and sustainable income streams.
Safeguarding
Be committed and responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable people in line with external requirements and GamCare’s policy & procedures, and expectations of the role.
