Welcome

Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in the role of Finance Director at the Diocese of Rochester:

I, my colleagues at Rochester, and our partners at Green Park are looking forward to engaging with you in this important appointment process at what is an exciting and opportune moment to join the team.

As a diocese we have worked ever more closely together through the last 3 years of pandemic and Vacancy in See. Led by our new Bishop of Rochester, our Called Together vision provides a platform to invest in our present, for the future as we seek to Change, Serve and Grow. Our challenge which you would join us in, is making this a financially sustainable approach. Our adoption last year of Total Return, together with partnership with funders provides us with the opportunity of directing investment to back the change that is needed to grow and serve.

We are looking for a collaborative, and perceptive senior colleague who is passionate about our purpose and mission, and has the drive and skills to lead and engage across the organisation to develop the financial plan needed to deliver our strategic objectives and fulfil our vision.

Working collaboratively to and with the Diocesan Secretary you will lead on the development of the short, medium and longer term financial plan, each of which will impact the other. Doing this will need you to be both insightful and thoughtful. The development of a 10 year financial plan will be part of current work to develop the delivery plans for Grow, Change, Serve. As a key part of the Operations Management Group you will have a vital role in delivering the support to parishes across the diocese.

We have a great team from Property to Formation and Ministry, Communications, HR, Safeguarding, Children and Young People, Community Engagement, and Projects amongst a number, with a desire to continue with the development of our transparent and supportive working relationships with parishes. Your role in this will be important. You will be joining an enthusiastic and experienced team who will support the work you will lead. Not only do we naturally want our new Finance Director to be data driven and have an eye to the detail, but we will be looking for someone who can work with intuition through collaboration. We are not looking for someone who has all the answers.

As Finance Director there are opportunities to build on relationships with Parishes to enable them to make best use of the financial assets that they have to support local ministry and mission. This runs hand in hand with the work of the Property team with their work related to selling or developing buildings and sites, again a collaborative approach is critical. The team, through the Generous Giving Adviser works closely with Incumbents and Treasurers to support their teaching on generous giving as part of whole life discipleship.

The details on this website will give you more information about the work of the Diocese of Rochester, our vision for the future and the work we are already involved in. If you have the experience and the commitment to help take us forward, we would love to hear from you.

Matthew Girt

Diocesan Secretary
