Welcome

Thank you for your interest in this key new role at the Crown Prosecution Service. Finding the right person for this post is an important  part of my plans to provide the best leadership to all our staff, and to transform and improve the service we provide.

The CPS sits at the heart of the criminal justice system (CJS), working with partners to help keep the public safe. We prosecute criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations in England and Wales. Our duty is to make sure that the right person is prosecuted for the right offence, and to bring offenders to justice wherever possible. These offences can include burglary, terrorism, domestic abuse and multi-million-pound fraud cases. We also work across borders to tackle cybercrime, organised immigration crime, human trafficking, and drugs smuggling, and use our powers to confiscate the proceeds of crime at home and abroad.

I am looking for an outstanding lawyer with excellent leadership experience to oversee the day-to-day operational management and performance of legal services.

As Director General Legal Delivery, you will be accountable for the operational performance of legal services and delivery of high-quality casework, working closely with me, the Director General Chief Operating Officer, the Directors of Legal Services (and the rest of Executive Group) to shape, develop and deliver the CPS’ vision and strategic priorities. You will need to work effectively with operational and legal partners across the CJS to lead and direct significant CJS change and legal reform priorities. You will also be expected to deputise for me on legal matters, and you will be a member of, and held accountable to, the CPS Board and Ministerial Strategic Board (MSB).

The ideal candidate will need to be an experienced lawyer, have excellent interpersonal skills, and a track record of delivery under pressure to lead teams to delivery in a complex organisational and stakeholder environment.

By joining the CPS, you have the chance to make a positive difference to the communities we serve and to wider society. The CPS is a diverse and inclusive employer, and works hard to create a culture where everyone can thrive.

This is an exciting and fast-paced role with a real opportunity to make a difference. I hope you see this an opportunity that suits your skills and experience, and I look forward to working with you.
