Welcome

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in this role. We are really looking forward to receiving applications and meeting candidates from the widest possible range of backgrounds and welcoming a new Director for Cathedral & Church Buildings to the national church institutions team, joining us in our work to support the mission and ministries of the Church of England, with a focus on the church’s wonderful and historic buildings.

The Church of England seeks to be a church for the whole nation, for all people in all places. Our 16,000 churches and cathedrals are a wonderful, treasured and very tangible part of how we do that.  Of these churches and cathedrals, 12,500 are listed – the largest group of heritage buildings in the country. They are highly valued and frequently visited by members of the public, as well as being used for worship and service in parishes and communities across the country

Led by the Director for Cathedral & Church Buildings, our team supports parishes, cathedrals and dioceses with their buildings, enabling them to be used to best missional effect and ensuring their protection, enhancement, conservation and appropriate adaptation. As Director, you will be passionate about the Church of England’s ministry, and the critical role our buildings play in that. You will see what a vital mission resource they are, and you will also appreciate the wonderful part of the nation’s and church’s heritage that they represent. You will be seized of the importance of caring for the environment and working to reduce our carbon footprint in line with our ambitious Net Zero Carbon 2030 goal.  You will understand the importance of helping volunteers, clergy and staff across the church to manage their buildings to best effect, given all these important considerations.

The details on this website will give you much more information about our work and in particular the role and responsibilities of our new Director for Cathedral & Church Buildings. If you have the skills, experience and passion to work with us on our vision, we would love to hear from you.
