Welcome

Thank you for your interest in joining BBC Children in Need as our next Chief Campaigns & Engagement Officer.

For more than 40 years, BBC Children in Need has held a unique place in the hearts of the public – bringing people together across the UK to help children and young people thrive. We have an extraordinary relationship with the BBC, an iconic and much-loved brand, and an incredible network of supporters, partners and funded organisations.

But the world children are growing up in is changing, and the challenges many of them face are becoming more complex and entrenched. We need to keep changing too.

This is an important moment in the life of BBC Children in Need. We are beginning to shape our next long-term strategy, looking ahead over the coming decade and asking how we can make the greatest possible difference for children and young people. Our ambition is to build on everything people already know and love about the charity, while becoming an even more relevant, engaging and powerful year-round force for change.

The Chief Campaigns & Engagement Officer will be central to making that happen.

This is a significant and exciting role, bringing together our approach to income, audiences, partnerships, brand, communications, content and our relationship with the BBC. You will lead the work that inspires millions of people to support us and generates around £50 million each year – growing our income and reach so that we can be there for more children and young people.

But the opportunity goes well beyond fundraising. You will help us use BBC Children in Need’s distinctive combination of storytelling, insight, influence, partnerships and the unrivalled reach of the BBC to build understanding of the issues affecting children and young people, amplify the voices and experiences that need to be heard, and give people meaningful ways to take part in creating change.

It is a role that combines creativity, commercial ambition and a deep sense of purpose. You will need to be as comfortable building relationships with senior BBC leaders and major partners as you are considering the experience of an individual supporter. Crucially, you will be able to join the dots – connecting our audiences, income, partnerships, content, communications and relationship with the BBC so that each strengthens the others and, together, they deliver greater impact for children and young people. You will bring together talented people from different disciplines, creating the clarity, confidence and shared ambition they need to do their best work.

This is also a vital leadership role across the whole charity. As a key member of our Executive Team, you will help shape our future strategy and culture, contribute to decisions affecting the whole organisation and ensure we make the most of the unique opportunities that come from being BBC Children in Need.

We are looking for an ambitious, collaborative and values-led leader who understands how to build relevance, deepen engagement and grow sustainable income in a changing world. Someone who sees connections and possibilities across different areas of work, can bring people together around a shared ambition and turn bold ideas into meaningful impact for children and young people.

Equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging matter deeply to us. We warmly welcome applications from people with different backgrounds, perspectives and lived experiences, particularly those that reflect the children and communities we are here to serve.

This is a rare opportunity to help shape the next chapter of one of the UK’s best-known and most-loved charities. If you are excited by the chance to bring together purpose, creativity, partnerships and the power of the BBC to make a lasting difference for children and young people, I would love to hear from you.

Best wishes,

Claire
