Person Specification – Chief Finance Officer

Education Knowledge and Experience

  • Extensive experience in a senior finance role of a large organisation ideally within a charitable organisation.
  • A senior leader with a demonstrable experience of delivering change and innovation.
  • A proven track record of developing relationships across the organisation.
  • Commercial and financial awareness with the ability to make sound decisions and recommendations, taking account of the needs of people that use our services.
  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA fully qualified Accountant – relevant graduate qualification and/or equivalent business experience with at least 10 years’ experience.

Abilities and Skills

  • The CFO will be a leader, analyst, creator, critical thinker, adjudicator, orchestrator, implementor and effective communicator.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines with a varied workload whilst maintaining a high standard of quality.
  • Effective communication (both verbal and written) and influencing skills, including the ability to present financial/HR information in a clear manner to non-financial managers.
  • Ability to review financial information with a keen eye for accuracy and detail.
  • Adept at presenting financial information and risk to senior internal stakeholders that support and influence key decision making, whilst assuring appropriate level of governance.
  • Lives the organisational values and is open, compassionate and bold.
  • Has high levels of integrity, judgement and discretion
  • Consistent in believing in people.
  • Is well organised, able to work with autonomy and with others.
  • Has the gravitas to command respect without ever abusing the position.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
