Role Description

Four days a week
£90,000 p.a.
Largely London-based but flexible

The Director of Finance and Operations at the Booker Prize Foundation is a new senior role: a thought partner for the Director, and a strategic financial thinker with budget oversight who will see that compliance is ensured on all fronts. The Director of Finance and Operations will play a crucial part in a rapidly evolving organisation; this is a year-round, hands-on job, not driven by peaks around the awarding of the two Booker Prizes.

The post involves responsibility for the entire finance function, from maintenance of the accounting records and handling of invoicing and payments, to setting and monitoring budgets and reporting on a quarterly basis to the Foundation’s Treasurer and board. You will be responsible for liaising with the Foundation’s external auditors.

You will also oversee professional services contracts, office practicalities and workflow systems, as well as HR matters including HR practice and policy development and implementation. (The BPF does have an external HR advisor but your role includes day to day HR administration and record keeping.)

In addition, as part of a small executive team you will take the lead in a range of regulatory and compliance matters, including the core company secretarial tasks of ensuring compliance with charity and company law requirements and compiling all agendas, notices and minutes for board meetings.  You will be a key member of the Foundation’s Advisory Committee, and you will also have the lead responsibility for the operation of the name licensing arrangements with Booker plc.

This is very much an all-round post for a qualified professional, offering a rewarding variety of challenges in support of the Booker Prizes. Accounting experience is essential, as is familiarity with the voluntary sector and experience of the regulatory and accounting frameworks applicable to charities and their trading subsidiaries.
