Wellcome is a global charitable foundation established in 1936. Through our work we support science to solve the urgent health issues facing everyone.
Our perspective on health and how to improve it spans science, innovation, and society.
We foster collaborative and supportive research environments that give researchers across a range of disciplines – including physical and social sciences, and the humanities – the time and resources they need to be creative and make new discoveries.
Between 2022 and 2032, we plan to spend £16 billion supporting science to solve the urgent health challenges facing everyone. We support discovery research into life, health and wellbeing, and we’re taking on three worldwide health challenges: mental health, infectious disease, and climate and health.
Wellcome was founded in 1936 by the will of Henry Wellcome, a pharmaceutical entrepreneur: he left us his wealth, his collection, and our mission.

Policy & Partnerships Department
We lead Wellcome’s policy and political engagement, and build the partnerships that help us reach our goals. We currently have two teams delivering impactful policy analysis and outputs, partnerships and government dialogues: Policy and Government Relations and Strategic Partnerships. With the recruitment of this role we will create a new Policy Labs team. The some of the existing Policy team will transfer into this new team, and we expect to add new posts in time.
Policy and Partnerships works across Wellcome’s Discovery and Solutions areas. The Policy Labs team will lead our work to create a supportive science policy environment for discovery research. Our existing Policy team will continue to lead work on our three Solutions programmes on climate and health, mental health and infectious disease. Both Policy teams will work closely with GRSP to scale our impact. Our key stakeholders include governments and public bodies, multilateral organisations, the private sector and philanthropies.
