Thank you for your interest in the role of Trustee at the United Kingdom Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK). We were established as a charity to raise funds, to work with UNICEF and the United Nations, and to further child rights.
There couldn’t be a more important time to deliver results for children. Too many children are in danger around the world, as well as facing violence, disease, hunger and the chaos of war, conflict and disaster.
UNICEF has launched a new strategy for 2030 focussing on acceleration towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the attainment of a society in which every child is included, without discrimination, and has agency, opportunity and rights fulfilled. UNICEF UK collaborates with UNICEF to advance the Sustainable Development Goals by developing targeted fundraising strategies and advocating for changes in UK government policies to enhance child rights in the UK and globally.
At UNICEF UK, in 2023 we raised £161 million for UNICEF’s emergency and development work around the world with £120 million making its way to programmes for children. We are able to achieve this impact through exceptional engagement with the public, building strong partnerships across the public and private sectors and delivering programmes here in the UK.
The Board of Trustees is passionate about putting children first in everything it does. We are seeking applications from candidates who share our vision of a better world for every child and have the drive and skills to help further UNICEF UK’s strategy. In addition, our appointed candidates will be confident role models of UNICEF UK’s values, committed to putting our values into action and ensuring they truly are at the heart of everything we do as a values-led organisation.
As part of our trustee succession and board development plans, we are currently seeking to recruit three individuals whose unique profiles will be instrumental in enhancing the Board’s skills and enriching our strategic oversight. Diversity as described above and in its widest context of perspective, background and experience is a key consideration, including encouraging applications from all parts of the UK.
The role of a Treasurer on the Board of Trustees at UNICEF UK is crucial for ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organisation. The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial management and reporting, confirming that funds raised are used effectively to support UNICEF’s mission to improve the lives of children worldwide. Their expertise in financial governance is essential for making informed decisions that align with UNICEF UK’s goals and values.
A younger trustee brings fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, ensuring that the board remains relevant and responsive to the needs of younger generations. Their unique insights help shape strategies that resonate with youth, fostering greater engagement and inclusivity. By representing the voices of young people, they contribute to more dynamic and forward-thinking governance, enhancing UNICEF UK’s impact.
A trustee with high-value connections is vital for UNICEF UK. They support the UUK team to facilitate introductions to high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) and access to influential circles, enhancing fundraising efforts. Their ability to cultivate relationships and support securing of significant donations ensures sustainable funding, enabling UNICEF UK to expand its impact and reach more children in need.
We would be delighted to hear from you if you want to contribute to making a difference for every child.
With best wishes,
Shatish Dasani
Board Chair, UNICEF UK
