Southbank Centre is looking to appoint up to three new Governors to its non-executive Board.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are looking for individuals with sufficient time to commit to the role (around the equivalent of 2days per month), as well as a proven track record in at least one of the following areas:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Commercial leadership and influence\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Business transformation\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Previous Board experience (as a non-Executive director and\/or Trustee)<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Government and policy influence and connectivity<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The Southbank has a diverse, multi-talented Board under the Chairmanship of Misan Harriman.\u00a0 The Executive welcomes the active involvement of Governors in supporting initiatives and helping them ensure that the Southbank combines artistic ambition, commercial initiative and good governance.\u00a0 Some members of the Board, at the CEO\u2019s request, have also volunteered to mentor and support individual members of the Executive team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    The role of Governor offers individuals the chance to play a significant part in shaping the future of the UK\u2019s largest national cultural institution.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Governors are members of Southbank Centre\u2019s governing body with responsibility for:<\/span><\/p>\n

    Strategy and Direction<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Contributing towards and approving Southbank Centre\u2019s objectives and overall strategic plans, and its artistic, learning and participation, public affairs, marketing, development, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and access strategies.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Supporting the Executive team with cultivation of all stakeholders and in particular with key Government departments.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Contributing towards and approving Southbank Centre\u2019s financial plans and strategies, both short- and long-term, cash flow management plans and annual report and accounts, and to review its risk management strategy, including its responsibility for Health and Safety issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Governance<\/strong><\/p>\n

        \n
      • Governors and the Executive manage the oversight of Southbank Centre\u2019s operations through a number of Committees, as well as the Board, including Finance, Audit and Risk; Property, Commercial and Sustainability; and People and Nominations.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Approving Southbank Centre\u2019s contracts and verbal commitments with a value in excess of \u00a31,000,000 or having duration in excess of three years.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Defining what the Board requires from the Executive in order to discharge its responsibilities, and to monitor the Executive\u2019s performance in that respect.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Setting the terms of reference for and monitoring the performance of the Committees of the Board. These Committees, both in an informal and formal way, provide Governors with the opportunity to support, review, test and challenge, in a highly dynamic and collaborative way, the business model assumptions and performance, as well as how best to explore new opportunities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        People and Culture<\/strong><\/p>\n

        • Approving the appointment or re-appointment of the Chief Executive and Artistic Director.<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Monitoring the delivery of Southbank\u2019s commitment to diversity and access.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          I<\/span>n addition to the specific skills we are seeking, we are looking for individuals who can demonstrate:<\/span><\/p>\n

          • A clear commitment to the arts and culture and an understanding of the importance of the arts and culture to society.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
          • The ability to think imaginatively and strategically and contribute to effective decision-making.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Commitment to championing diversity and ensuring that the benefits of arts and culture are available to the widest range of people.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
