Person Specification

To be able to do this we are therefore most interested to hear from you if, in addition to the specific skills we are seeking, you can demonstrate:

1.     Deep knowledge of, and commitment to, the arts and culture and an understanding of the importance of the arts and culture to society with interests in Classical and Contemporary Music, Visual Arts, and Literature

2.     The ability to think imaginatively and strategically and contribute to effective decision-making.

3.     Commitment to championing diversity and ensuring that the benefits of arts and culture are available to the widest range of people.

4.     The ability to act as a credible advocate of Southbank Centre with key stakeholders in the sector and the ability to support Southbank Centre’s work in building networks and effective partnerships.

Time commitment

Governors are expected to:

  • Commit not less than 15 days a year and attend a minimum of three of the five Board meetings each year.
  • Serve on at least one Committee and to attend not less that 75% of the Committee meetings each year.
  • Make an active and positive contribution to the organisation whether it be their time, skills, networks and through financial gifts.
  • Governors serve a term of three years with a possibility of a further three-year term up to a maximum of nine years

Appointments are made on merit, following a fair and transparent process.

New Governors of Southbank Centre are required to sign a declaration form to demonstrate that they are willing to act as a trustee of Southbank Centre, understand Southbank Centre’s purposes (objects) and rules set out in its governing document and are not prevented from acting as a trustee.
