Welcome

Welcome to the recruitment site for the Chair of the Board of Shakespeare’s Globe. Here you will find information about our world-renowned organisation, with our two iconic theatres, education centre, and cultural visitor offering on the bank of the River Thames in London.

We are searching for the highest calibre of candidate, ready to seize the opportunity to lead our Board with creativity and confidence. We have engaged and dynamic Trustees, and a new CEO who leads a resilient and committed leadership team.

Shakespeare’s Globe is an independent charity, with a workforce that has emerged re-energised post pandemic. Year to year we operate without any regular subsidy or Arts Council England funding. Our planned financial surpluses are generated by our own activities and are invested in the ongoing work of the Shakespeare Globe Trust, a registered educational and artistic charity supported by around 250 employees and over 400 freelancers, a large body of committed volunteers, an extensive membership scheme and generous contributions from a wide range of companies, charitable trusts, foundations, and private individuals throughout the world. As with the rest of the performing arts sector, we face ongoing financial challenges, yet continue to deliver creatively for our audiences, and with major impact for our diverse communities.

The Globe is a unique organisation. Its wooden ‘O’ so meticulously and beautifully designed, transports us and connects us to 400 years of treasured history – providing illumination and inspiration for what the next centuries can hold, not only in its cultural offer, but in its spirit. Those working within it are dedicated and enthusiastic people, committed to equity, creativity, and enterprise, instigated by our love of performance, education, and language. I very much look forward to finding that dedicated leader, who may come from any sector, and is ready to join the Globe with dynamism and energy.
