Job Title: Director of Operations
Grade: SCS2
Salary Range & Pay Band: Circa £135,000. Staff applying on promotion within the Civil Service will usually be appointed to the salary minimum or receive a 10% increase on their existing salary. Individuals appointed on level transfer will retain their existing salary.
Division: Operations
Security Clearance: Currently have or prepared to undertake DV security clearance.
Reports to (Position & Grade): The Director of the Serious Fraud Office, SCS3

Overview of the Job

The Director of Operations (DirOps) is a key member of the Serious Fraud Office’s Executive Team and the SFO Board. The DirOps is an organisational leader, responsible for delivering high levels of performance across the end to end casework operation – intelligence, investigation, prosecution, proceeds of crime and international assistance. The DirOps chairs the SFO’s Operations Committee and the Technology Gold Group.

Key Responsibilities

  • With Executive Team colleagues, to provide clear and visible leadership across the SFO to build an engaged and motivated workforce through role modelling the SFO’s and Civil Service values and behaviours, and operating as an inclusive and visible leader;
  • To be accountable for the SFO’s operational performance; to proactively lead intelligence, casework and proceeds of crime and international assistance divisions, including line management of subject matter expert SCS1s; developing new and innovative methodologies to drive improved performance and case outcomes;
  • To lead and manage a complex strategic agenda, building and maintaining effective relationships with very senior stakeholders at Civil Service Official, Non-Executive Director, political and ministerial levels, particularly with the Attorney General’s Office and both law enforcement and regulatory partners, to increase understanding of our work and to improve public confidence in how we deliver justice;
  • As a senior and strategic leader, to implement and drive organisational initiatives throughout the SFO;
  • To be accountable for the Operations budget.

Line Management Responsibility

The DirOps has five direct reports at SCS1 level:

  • The SFO’s Chief Intelligence Officer.
  • The Head of the Proceeds of Crime and International Assistance Division.
  • The three Heads of the SFO’s operational divisions.
