Welcome

Our mission is to defend the health of our oceans and waterways, helping people thrive. The ocean is in danger, and we don’t have much time to save it. At Surfers Against Sewage (SAS), we create inspired, motivated ocean activists everywhere, each one of us committed to protecting the ocean and all it makes possible. We shout loudly for the ocean, gathering the evidence and giving voice to the issues that hold leaders to account. Today we are more than surfers. It’s about more than sewage. We’re here because of the ocean.

We are in the Ocean Decade, a time when our communities can help influence great change for ocean health and restoration, by uniting their voice and presence at key political and institutional moments, from the Global Plastics Treaty through implementation of Highly Protected Marine Areas. Our communities must be empowered to act as challengers and disruptors, demanding an end to the destructive forces killing our seas.

The Director of Campaigns and Communities is a new and important role to Surfers Against Sewage. As part of our Executive Leadership Team and reporting directly to the CEO, we are looking for our Director to have lead oversight of our policy, campaigns, and communities functions – the engine room of Surfers Against Sewage.

The spread of our work is broad: whether we are running education programmes, working with coastal communities to clean up their beaches, lobbying parliament or mobilising the public in protest, we need to ensure that we are not just connecting people with nature but connecting people with impact. In simple terms, our Director will join the dots across our activities, ensuring that we are always on the front foot of campaigning, impact, and positive social change.
