The Organisation: The Satellite Applications Catapult

Role: Non-Executive Directors x 4

Remuneration: £13,500 per annum

Commitment: Up to 2 days/month (including preparation and attendance for up to 8 board meetings/year, committee meetings, and occasional site visits)

Our NED roles come with an average time commitment of up to two days per month which includes preparation for and attendance at Board meetings (typically up to 8 Board meetings per year), committee meetings and any other occasional site visits.

 

As one of our NEDs your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Leverage your knowledge, skills, and experience to provide strategic leadership, aiding in the development and monitoring of our strategic plan.
  • Sector Focus: Ensure the Board consistently prioritises space sector growth as a fundamental objective.
  • Ambassadorship: Serve as an ambassador for the Catapult, representing and advocating for our work within your sphere of influence.
  • Financial Oversight: Monitor budget expenditures against service delivery and targets, ensuring our resources are used effectively and efficiently.
  • Constructive Challenge: Support and champion the executive team, while also providing constructive and independent challenges to the status quo, stakeholder views, and management assumptions.
  • Governance: Collaborate with the CEO and Chair to define and implement corporate governance and reporting procedures.

We expect that you would have one or more of the following experience areas:

  • London tech and business scaling startup support: Understanding of the London tech, and ideally global innovation and new technology scene. Experience in funding start-ups and scaling businesses.
  • Academia: Familiar with the Academic world and taking research into industry.
  • Space Data: Use of Space Data in the commercial and public sector world.
  • Policy Understanding: Familiarity with Whitehall and an understanding of policy and funding decision-making processes, especially in areas of sustainability and business regulation.
  • Big space: Experience of the cycles, standards, funding landscape, customer base and supply chain of big space programmes including military in Space.

Experience and Skills:

  • Leadership Track Record: Demonstrated success in organisational and strategic leadership with sound judgment.
  • Governance Acumen: Strong understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, liabilities, and responsibilities of NEDs, with clarity on the difference between governance and management functions.
  • Constructive Engagement: Ability to speak your mind, constructively challenge, and confidently contribute to areas beyond your specialism.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of both empowering and supportively challenging others.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse board team.
  • Ambassadorial Role: Willingness and ability to represent the Catapult in an ambassadorial capacity.
  • Technological Passion: A genuine passion for technology and its potential to serve industry and society
