Salary: Up to £115,000
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer

The Director of Advocacy and Prevention is a lead role within the RSPCA and is responsible for positioning the issues that matter in relation to animal welfare at the heart of the political, corporate, influencers and the public’s agendas, helping shape the views of decision makers, opinion formers, the general public and stakeholders in support of the RSPCA’s strategy.

The post-holder will lead the development, resourcing and implementation of a sector leading advocacy and prevention that will lead to positive change and improve the lives of animals, always ensuring that this is supported by sound evidence and good practice. The post also plays a vital role in supporting the alignment and effective co-working with RSPCA Assured.

Responsible for developing the RSPCA’s influencing strategy and driving implementation in England, Wales and internationally through evidence, policy development, public affairs activity and campaigning, the post holder will be accountable for ensuring the Society’s knowledge, understanding and evidence around animal welfare is up to date and fully utilised in order to inform public policy and service delivery decisions. The post holder will be an advocate of an evidence-based approach, taking opportunities to highlight and promote the Society as a leader in this area.

Supporting the Society in driving transformation through forward planning frameworks, as well as value for money in delivery, this role is designed to bring together a combination of subject matter expertise and leadership skills to deliver an outstanding forward-looking advocacy function.

Key accountabilities are:

  • Lead role within the RSPCA, responsible for positioning animal welfare issues at the forefront of public and political agendas.
  • Lead the development and implementation of an education and advocacy division, ensuring it is evidence-based and aligned with RSPCA Assured.
  • Develop and implement the RSPCA’s influencing strategy, ensuring up-to-date knowledge and evidence on animal welfare to inform policy and service delivery.
  • Bring together subject matter expertise and leadership skills to deliver an outstanding Advocacy function.
