The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance of the Charity, its strategic direction, its sound administration and the fulfilment of its charitable purposes.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Working with the Chair, the Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer and the Leadership Team, to oversee the strategic direction of the Charity.
- Ensuring that governance is exercised appropriately in accordance with relevant legislation, regulation, best practice and the Charity’s governance documents.
- Protecting the assets of the Charity and ensuring robust systems for financial control, risk management and planning.
- Acting solely in the best interests of the Charity and avoiding potential/declaring actual conflicts of interest between personal interests and those of the Charity.
- Acting collectively with other Trustees to exercise reasonable care and skill in making decisions on behalf of the Charity.
- Ensuring the accountability of the CEO and senior leadership team.
You will also be expected to:
- Fully support the Charity’s mission, vision, purposes, goals and values.
- Gain a better understanding of the Charity by getting out and about, meeting volunteers, staff and beneficiaries and attending service visits.
- Make your skills and experience available to the Charity.
- Attend regular Trustee Board and Committee meetings, having prepared fully for them.
- Serve on at least one Committee.
- Support the Chief Executive and Leadership Team to achieve the mission of the Charity, understanding and respecting the different but complimentary roles of trustees and staff.
- Where appropriate, constructively challenge thinking, the method of governance and management of the Charity.
- Participate in individual and Board/Committee performance reviews.
- Abide by the Code of Conduct for Trustees and be an exemplar for integrity, equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Respect and maintain confidentiality about the Charity and its activities.
- Represent the Charity externally and exerting positive influence with key stakeholders.
- Participate in events to recognise volunteers’ achievements, to promote the work of the Charity or to support its fundraising activities.
