- Proven leadership and management skills sufficient to lead and manage a growing charity.
- Comfortable with working within a community which embraces innovation, academic expertise and practitioner professionalism.
- A record of successful leadership through periods of growth and/or organisational change and development.
- Good strategic development skills combined with an ability to deliver operationally.
- Good people manager with a commitment to developing and challenging staff, setting objectives and reviewing performance.
- Commercially astute, entrepreneurial, able to take advantage of opportunities within their overall scope of responsibility.
- The ability to prepare and implement business plans in line with the Strategy agreed by the board.
- Sound financial management with an ability to prepare and manage budgets.
- Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills, able to nurture and service long-term relationships to the benefit of the organisation.
- Some experience of fund-raising, developing productive partnerships and income-generation important.
- Appropriate skills to lead programme development and to manage grant-making processes.
- Familiarity with UK charity law and governance issues.
- Some experience of working with a Trustee Board an advantage.
- Excellent organisation, written and verbal communication skills, including experience and confidence in public. speaking, report-writing and dealing with press and media.
- IT literate.
- An understanding of, or empathy with, the veterinary profession and the purpose of RCVS Knowledge.
