This role sits within a pay grade with a pay range of £73,930 to £115,301 per annum. The salary on appointment will be set at the lower end of the pay range, to a maximum of £94,616 per annum depending on the candidate’s skills and experience. This approach aims to ensure fair compensation for new hires while maintaining alignment with the structured pay scale for the role.
Context and Purpose of Role
The Chief Commercial Officer is responsible for leading and driving the growth and delivery of all income streams, communications, digital, data and technology across the organisation. The role plays a key part in the delivery of the organisation’s strategy especially on the evolution of ways to engage with the organisation, the diversification of income and the shift in perceptions of the organisation’s activities and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead the development and implementation of significant income growth and diversification plans in line with the ambitions of the strategy.
- Play a lead role in securing new partnership opportunities with a focus on major donors, philanthropic support and high value corporate partners.
- Lead the evolution of the member and supporter engagement plans with a view to growth across time, money and voice.
- Lead the continuous development of the organisation’s brand proposition ensuring opportunities to shift perceptions of the organisation’s relevance and impact are maximised.
- Lead the development and implementation of plans to cohesively integrate activities across communications, public affairs and digital.
- Lead the development and implementation of plans to deliver on the organisation’s digital, data and technology ambitions in line with the strategy.
Operational Excellence
- Maintain an understanding of the external income generation environment, anticipating and responding to changes in the internal and external environment to mitigate risk and maximise opportunities.
- Use research and insights to devise and implement plans to maximise retention of members and supporters, decreasing attrition and improving overall satisfaction.
- Develop and implement clear and transparent mechanisms for income reporting to multiple stakeholders.
- Lead, motive and coach teams on a regular basis and in accordance with the organisation’s performance process and respond to any performance issues in a constructive, supportive and timely way.
- Oversee and maintain resilience in the organisation’s technology services and estate.
- Build a data, insight research-led communications function ensuring all campaigns and activity have clear success measures, are integrated and aligned to the strategy to maximise impact.
- Act as the senior media spokesperson as required for external audiences and lead on reputation management.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Deliver expert advice to key stakeholders (people leaders, Executive Leadership Team, Board and its committees) across the full range of people matters, ensuring best practice and pragmatic solutions to meet the evolving needs of the charity.
- Provide proactive guidance, data and assurance to Finance, Risk and Audit Committee and other committees as requested.
- Manage the relationship with relevant stakeholders as required.
