Role Description – Head of Finance

Salary: £60,000 – £66,000
Hours: This is a full-time position
Location: Based at Power the Fights London office
Line management of: Finance staff including consultants

Overview

Power the fight exists to empower communities to end youth violence. The Head of Finance plays a critical role in ensuring the organisation’s long-term sustainability, transparency, and financial resilience.

As a senior leader, the post holder will oversee all financial strategy, management, and governance, ensuring that resources are stewarded responsibly and aligned with the organisation’s mission to support young people, families, and communities.

As Power the Fight continues to grow, the post holder may occasionally be asked to support additional programmes or organisational priorities that align with their skills and seniority. Any such responsibilities will be clearly defined and agreed in advance to ensure role clarity, appropriate workload management, and alignment with organisational priorities.

Main Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Lead the development and implementation of financial strategies that support organisational growth and long-term sustainability.
  • Provide a clear, accessible financial oversight to support strategic decision-making across programmes and partnerships
  • Identify opportunities for diversification, income growth, and improved financial
  • Lead financial planning across multiple income categories, including grants, contracts, donations, trading income, and restricted/unrestricted funds.

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting
  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, ensuring financial controls, accurate coding, and timely processing.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide analysis and recommendations to the CEO and senior leadership team.

  • Manage multiple funding streams, ensuring accurate allocation, tracking, and reconciliation of restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Produce timely and accurate financial reports for funders and commissioners, ensuring compliance with grant and contract
  • Oversee staff expenses, ensuring compliance and accurate cost
  • Support VAT calculations and submissions, including partial exemption

Governance & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with charity finance regulations, SORP, Companies House, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain robust financial policies, procedures, and systems that reflect the organisation’s values and growth.
  • Provide high-quality financial reports to the Board of Trustees and Finance
  • Ensure strong audit trails and evidence requirements for all funder-related financial

Team Leadership & Organisational Support:

  • Line manage finance staff and consultants, building a high-performing and values0drived finance function.
