Role Summary
As a Trustee of Pitlochry Festival Theatre, you will be responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Theatre, ensuring its financial health and compliance with all legal and statutory requirements. Trustees play a critical role in supporting the Theatre’s mission, vision, and values, fostering its long-term success.
Key Responsibilities
Governance and Leadership
- Uphold the charity’s purpose, ensuring effective governance structures and processes.
- Oversee the development and implementation of strategic plans and policies.
- Ensure the Theatre operates in compliance with its legal obligations and adheres to its articles of association.
Strategic Oversight
- Contribute to the strategic direction and decision-making to achieve the Theatre’s goals.
- Review and approve the strategic plan, annual budgets, and significant expenditure.
- Provide governance over the Theatre’s digital and technological strategies.
Financial Oversight
- Monitor the financial stability of the Theatre, ensuring prudent and effective control and allocation of resources.
- Approve annual financial statements and returns as required by law.
- Support and lead efforts in fundraising and exploring new revenue streams to ensure long-term financial sustainability and resilience.
Risk Management
- Ensure that risks to the charity are identified and managed appropriately.
- Participate in regular reviews of the organisation’s risk management and internal control processes.
Sustainability and Environmental
- Oversee and promote sustainability initiatives so that the Theatre’s operations align with environmental best practices and contribute towards achieving the goal of becoming Scotland’s first net-zero theatre.
Advocacy and Ambassadorship
- Act as an ambassador for the Theatre, advocating its mission and programs.
- Engage with stakeholders to enhance the Theatre’s profile and develop beneficial partnerships.
- Actively engage in developing strategic relationships across the arts, business, and tourism sectors to enhance the Theatre’s community integration and support its strategic objectives.
Board Effectiveness
- Participate actively in trustee meetings and contribute to committee work.
- Evaluate board performance and promote improvements in board practices.
Time Commitment
- Trustees are expected to attend quarterly board meetings, as well as additional committee meetings and strategic sessions as needed. Overall, trustees can expect to commit an average of 20 days per annum.
- Board meetings normally take place 4 times per year in Pitlochry, and Committees normally meet online on a similar basis.
