I’m excited that you’re interested in partnering with us on our Major Appeal to raise a game-changing £100 million over the next seven years to bring us closer to a future where prostate cancer isn’t a death sentence.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in England. It kills one man every 45 minutes. Put simply, more men are getting diagnosed and dying than ever before. It’s a huge – and rapidly growing – crisis in men’s health, and it’s hiding in plain sight.
Prostate cancer is a real and existential risk to increasing numbers of men. But it doesn’t need to be this way. A better future is possible – where lifesaving early diagnosis is the norm. Where better treatments save, lengthen and enrich men’s lives – changing things for the better, not worse. Where men have the support they need, on their terms, from day one.
By joining our Major Appeal Board, you can play a pivotal role in transforming the experience for men and their families and creating a world in which more men’s lives are saved and enriched through early diagnosis, better treatments, and personalised support.
For the past 28 years, Prostate Cancer UK has worked in partnership to drive groundbreaking progress through:
- Raising awareness via our Risk Checker, used over 4 million times since it launched in 2020, giving practical support on what steps to take next for a diagnosis.
- Supporting men and their families with prostate cancer, through award-winning services like Specialist Nurses, who provided expert emotional and practical support through over 14,000 calls in 2024.
- Campaigning for real-world change, like using our research to gain NHS approval for Olaparib, the first precision medicine for prostate cancer which has effectively extended hundreds of men’s lives
- Funding world-class research like the multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging (mpMRI) study, which convinced the government to fund PROMIS – an ambitious clinical trial. The results transformed the way prostate cancer was diagnosed in the UK.
- Committing to inclusion through our Black Health Equity programme, underpinning everything we do to reduce the systemic barriers that Black men face.
Building on this history, this Major Appeal will deliver the impact men need by broadly funding:
- £45 Million to revolutionise prostate cancer diagnosis at scale, through research programmes like TRANSFORM – the largest prostate cancer screening trial in the UK for over 20 years, anticipated to reduce death from prostate cancer by up to 40%.
- £35 Million to accelerate pioneering research for better treatments to save lives and reduce destructive side effects. Our Research Innovation Awards fund new science, early innovation and the brightest minds, which can lead to breakthroughs in the future. And our Transformational Impact Awards push game-changing treatments out of the lab and into the hands of men who need them—before it’s too late.
- £20 Million to urgently expand our health and nurse specialist services, so that no man faces prostate cancer alone. As diagnosis rates rise sharply, we must act now to ensure every man gets the support he needs to survive and live well. No man can be left behind.
We have the science, the expertise and the momentum – but we can’t get there alone. We now need to bring together the brightest minds and our most generous supporters to make sure no man dies needlessly and stop prostate cancer from destroying more lives. Together, we will change the story for men in just seven short years, creating lifetimes of positive impact for generations to come.
We’re thrilled that you’re considering being a part of our Major Appeal Board. I’d be delighted to meet with you to tell you more or answer your questions at any point during this process.
Thank you for your interest,
