Role Specification: Board Chair – Britain’s First Black-Led Social Investment Wholesaler
What we are looking for
The current team has led the organisation through its transition to become an independent legal institution and now seeks to establish a new board of non-executive directors to strategically develop Pathway as a world-class wholesaler operation with a successful operating model, and a first-class team of staff, delivering quality products and impact for UK PLC.
In the spirit of collaborative leadership, and recognising deep and relevant experience is now needed to go to the next level, we seek non-executives and the role of Chair to join the Pathway Fund at this very exciting juncture and help lead the organisation into its next chapter.
The Chair will work with the Board (Founders will join the Board) and Leadership Team to deliver on securing approximately £65M-£100M in funding and the establishment of our endowment fund. The board members will enhance and develop the organisation’s strategy from 2024 onwards, as well as continue to broaden Pathway’s reach and relevance and fulfill its vital racial justice mission.
Candidates should bring senior leadership experience in their field, a strong track record of managing large PnL’s that are innovative and impactful, and the ability to be an excellent external advocate to potential donors, funders, and partners. They should possess brilliant stakeholder management skills and experience, a collegiate approach to leadership with a demonstrable commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and access.

Board Chair Purpose
As Chair of the Pathway Fund, you will be pivotal in providing strategic leadership and governance to this ambitious organisation, ensuring it fulfills its mission of supporting Black and Ethnic Minoritised communities and social enterprises.
The expectation is that we will secure a Chair who has deep financial management experience and a track record.
Board Remit
- Leadership: Co-lead the Board of Directors in setting the strategic direction and vision of Pathway, championing our mission, vision, and values.
- Governance: Ensure robust governance practices, accountability, and transparency in the work that we do and how we operate.
- Stakeholder Influence: Act as a key stakeholder influencer, leveraging your extensive network and expertise to create partnerships, advocate for Pathway, and promote its mission within communities and relevant sectors.
- Execution Advice/Support: Offer valuable advice and support in executing Pathway’s initiatives, programmes, and investments, drawing from your professional experience and expertise.
- Representation: Serve as a representative of the Pathway Fund, actively engaging with external stakeholders, including government bodies, financial institutions, philanthropy, and community organisations.
- Financial Expertise: Contribute financial acumen, especially in finance and asset management sectors, to assist in prudent financial management and investment decisions.
- Entrepreneurial Experience: Share insights and experiences related to setting up and managing businesses, and fostering entrepreneurship within underrepresented and underserved communities.
- Fundraising Background: Utilise your expertise to help secure financial resources for Pathway’s programs and operations.
- Board Member Intermediary/Enterprise Representation: Advocate for Black social enterprises and intermediaries, ensuring that Pathway’s activities are aligned with their needs and objectives.
- Values: Actively promote and contribute to Pathway’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
