Alex Wallace

Thank you for your interest in joining The Neurodegeneration Initiative.

As Chair of the Dame Barbara Windsor Goals programme, and someone who has dedicated much of my professional life to driving progress on dementia, I’m genuinely pleased to introduce this recruitment pack. This mission is deeply personal to me — because behind every breakthrough we strive for is a family living through one of the most difficult experiences imaginable. The Neurodegeneration Initiative a uniquely  independent organisation, co-funded by industry and government that acts as the engine room for the programme. It crystalises its requirements, builds, funds and runs a portfolio of activities ,run across public and private sector players, and maintains high-touch communication with national and international stakeholders. It has been formed, with strong initial management and attracted industry plus UK Government backing.

We are at an extraordinary time in the research and development of new diagnostics and therapies, with rapid acceleration and increasing opportunities in innovative ways to prevent and treat neurodegenerative conditions, particularly dementia. The Neurodegeneration Initiative is seeking a Chair and Trustees to form a Board that shares that same urgency, ambition and belief in what’s possible. We need pioneering people who can help us shape the next chapter of The Neurodegeneration Initiative as it establishes itself as a charity and to help drive the impact that we know is within reach. I hope as you read on, you’ll feel inspired to bring your experience and passion to this vital work.

As Chair of the Board, you will provide the strategic leadership, guidance and governance needed to enable The Neurodegeneration Initiative to achieve its goals. You will play a pivotal role in these formative stages of the programme, helping to shape and form its direction and governance strengthening its foundations, and maintaining its momentum. This role will be critical to making  rapid progress within the global dementia research ecosystem, to guide an ambitious charity, and support a mission that will deliver profound impact.

We are seeking an accomplished and committed professional to join our Board of Trustees as Chair. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to influence the future of dementia and neurodegeneration, providing more opportunities for participation in research in the UK, delivering better outcomes for patients, their families and carers through access to innovative solutions.
