Welcome

Thank you for your interest in joining the National Theatre. The National Theatre is a world-class theatre for all, with a nationwide and international learning and participation programme that inspires and enhances life chances.

The National Theatre makes theatre that entertains and inspires using its creativity, expertise and unique reach. We share unforgettable stories with millions of audience members across the UK and around the world, on our own stages, on tour, in schools, on cinema screens and streaming at home.

The National Theatre consistently seeks to innovate – in the ways we reach audiences, the societal role we play across the UK, and in the support we offer the wider theatre sector. Innovation is now more necessary than ever, at a time of significant opportunity and challenge for the sector, responding to national and global change – from audience habits and expectations to the impact of AI to the climate emergency.

We recognise that data and insight are key to innovation, to the future health of the theatre, and to strengthening the role we play in society. The new role of Data & Insight Director and the Data & Insight team reflects a strategic shift to invest in and develop our capacity, systems and skills for data & insight, across all aspects of the work from net zero to audiences, people and education.

This new role offers an opportunity for a strategic and creative data and insight leader to shape this critical part of our work – to renew our approach, building on existing good practice but with scope to innovate, to develop significant research projects and partnerships, to explore the creative use of data and to connect with national policy makers.

You’ll lead a small team, but with full commitment and support from the National Theatre’s Board, Executive and Senior Leadership team to put data and insight at the heart of our decision making. You’ll also join a community with many talented staff across the organisation with enthusiasm, commitment and experience to develop a better data culture.

The National Theatre is a deeply collaborative, creative, fast-paced organisation, with clear mission and values, a supportive culture, and a commitment to excellence across all our work – from the productions on our stages to the way we tell our story. You’ll find a place where you can be creative and innovative, significantly develop our practice and build a legacy which will strengthen both the National Theatre and the wider creative sector.
