Person Specification

The person appointed to the position of Chief Executive will be expected to demonstrate the following essential criteria.

  • Commitment to the values, mission and vision of NAT.
  • A successful track record of senior management experience gained either in the statutory, voluntary or private sector and the ability to run a small organisation with a national profile.
  • High level leadership skills and proven success in managing change, strong self-motivation and a sustained and demonstrable commitment to achieving results.
  • Commitment to promoting equality and diversity within the organisation, and in the broader sector.
  • Positive leadership style that is able to build and lead a successful team, team player, collaborative, including and encouraging creativity, new ideas and exploring new ways of doing things and opportunities to learn.
  • Demonstrable ability to motivate others with the capacity for drawing the best out of them, enabling and encouraging them to contribute to, participate in and identify with group objectives and to build a strong, cohesive team.
  • Evidence of strategic thinking and vision, with the ability to analyse complex concepts and information, internal and external trends, and to develop strategies based on long-term perspectives.
  • Ability to plan and manage a significant budget.
  • Ability to secure funds from a variety of sources and build long term relationships with funders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrable ability in building and maintaining positive working relationships both internally and externally.
  • High level presentation, negotiation, influencing and representational skills.
  • The ability to build a media profile for NAT, in collaboration with the Communications Manager.
  • The ability to work effectively with a Board of trustees/directors in a voluntary organisation and to develop a positive relationship with the Board.
