- An empathy for and commitment to the charity’s purpose, values, and Christian ethos.
- Demonstrable experience of the maritime industry and a strong network in the maritime community.
- Proven leadership ability, including experience in chairing of meetings and communicating effectively.
- Board governance track record as a senior non-executive or executive director or trustee.
- Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship.
- Ability to work effectively and collegiately as a member of the Board.
- Ability to offer creative thought and bring new ideas to Board discussions.
- A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role of Chair.
- Sound, independent judgement and a willingness to speak their mind.
- Willingness to represent the Mission at occasional events, meetings or functions as appropriate and introduce others to its work. Occasional overseas travel will be required.
