Person Specification – Chair

  • An empathy for and commitment to the charity’s purpose, values, and Christian ethos.
  • Demonstrable experience of the maritime industry and a strong network in the maritime community.
  • Proven leadership ability, including experience in chairing of meetings and communicating effectively.
  • Board governance track record as a senior non-executive or executive director or trustee.
  • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship.
  • Ability to work effectively and collegiately as a member of the Board.
  • Ability to offer creative thought and bring new ideas to Board discussions.
  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role of Chair.
  • Sound, independent judgement and a willingness to speak their mind.
  • Willingness to represent the Mission at occasional events, meetings or functions as appropriate and introduce others to its work. Occasional overseas travel will be required.
  • A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
